Overview
Canadian AI adoption is bottlenecked on trust. Law firms, government agencies, and regulated enterprises need inference that never leaves the country and answers only to Canadian law — and most providers can''t say that with a straight face. Runars can: an OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible inference API, a Canadian GPU cloud in Montreal and Calgary, and Runars Chat with live web and CanLII legal research. Every token, log, and prompt cache stays on Canadian soil.
Members of Technical Staff build the systems that make that true and own the customers running on them. There is no separate solutions team, and no layer between you and the workload.
What you''ll do
- Build and operate the inference platform: a canonical proxy layer spanning our Canadian GPU cloud, upstream model providers, web search, image generation, and CanLII legal research — streaming, retries, failure telemetry, and the request path every customer depends on
- Own the correctness of money: per-request cost capture in CAD, FX traceability on every model price, the credit ledger, invoices and receipts, idempotent billing under concurrency
- Harden the database: a multi-tenant Postgres schema with row-level security on every table, rate-limit tiers, and pgvector retrieval powering the agent workbench
- Ship agentic product: file ingest and retrieval for workbench sessions, tool use, and honest evaluation of what the agents actually do
- Own customer accounts end to end. Sales gets the first meeting. From there you decide what to prove, you build it, you keep it running in production, and you carry the relationship
- Win the technical evaluation on the customer''s own workload — their legal research questions, their latency profile, their data-residency audit — not a synthetic benchmark
- Own production for your accounts. When latency moves or error rates climb, you find it, you fix it or route it, and you are who the customer hears from
- Inform the roadmap. You sit closer than anyone to how Runars behaves under real load
What we look for
- You are an exceptional engineer. You have shipped and operated production systems, and you can still open a profiler, read a trace, and find the problem yourself. Inference experience helps, but it matters more that you can be handed an unfamiliar system and own it inside a week.
- You have owned a customer relationship. You can name an account that was yours, say what was going wrong, and describe what you personally did about it.
- You are credible in a room full of engineers — and in a room full of compliance officers. You can defend a data-flow diagram line by line, concede the point when they are right, and write down exactly what you promised.
- You work without a spec. The problem arrives half-defined from a customer who does not yet know what they need, and you come back with a scoped answer rather than a list of questions.
Compensation and benefits
- $200–300K CAD base salary + equity
- Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Visa sponsorship available
How we work
On-site in Calgary. Small team, massive surface area, complete autonomy in how you solve problems. This is not a role that lives in meetings — nearly all of your time is engineering. What makes it different is who that engineering is for: a named set of customers, whose workloads run on what you build, in a country that is actively deciding whose infrastructure it can trust.

Overview
Canadian AI adoption is bottlenecked on trust. Law firms, government agencies, and regulated enterprises need inference that never leaves the country and answers only to Canadian law — and most providers can't say that with a straight face. Runars can: an OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible inference API, a Canadian GPU cloud in Montreal and Calgary, and Runars Chat with live web and CanLII legal research. Every token, log, and prompt cache stays on Canadian soil.
Winning those customers is a technical act. The evaluation that matters runs on the customer's own workload — their legal research questions, their latency profile, their data-residency audit — and it is won by architects, not slides. Until now, that work has been done by Members of Technical Staff wearing two hats. We're past the point where that scales. As Manager of Applied AI Architecture, you'll build and lead the team that owns it: hiring Runars' first dedicated Applied AI Architects, setting the bar for technical credibility, and personally carrying our most strategic accounts.
This is a founding-manager role. You will define what technical partnership at Runars looks like — the playbooks, the hiring bar, the coaching — while staying close enough to the ground to know what's actually working.
What you'll do
- Build, hire, and develop a team of Applied AI Architects — set a high bar for technical credibility, customer impact, and execution, and grow the people who meet it
- Personally lead engagements with priority accounts, from initial technical discovery through production deployment and expansion, modeling what great looks like for your team
- Own the segment's technical playbooks: how to run a technical evaluation on the customer's own workload, how to build customer-specific eval frameworks, how to architect for data residency and audit, and how to win against US hyperscalers and other LLM providers
- Partner with Sales and GTM leadership as one team, shaping segment strategy and driving adoption across law firms, government, and regulated enterprise
- Make sure customer signal reaches Product and Engineering — emerging use cases, deployment patterns, architectural decisions — translated into roadmap, not anecdotes
- Build Runars' technical presence in the Canadian AI ecosystem through events, workshops, the legal tech community, and written content
- Stay ahead of the AI engineering landscape — context engineering, eval frameworks, agentic architectures — and keep your team operating at the frontier
What we look for
- 8+ years in technical customer-facing roles — Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or the Runars equivalent: an engineer who owned customers — with 5+ years leading and managing pre-sales or technical go-to-market teams
- A track record of building and developing high-performing teams: you know how to hire well, coach effectively, and create the conditions where technical talent does its best work
- Deep experience with regulated enterprises. You understand procurement, compliance review, and how a data-residency question decides a deal before any benchmark is run
- Genuine builder credibility: you've built and deployed LLM-powered applications, you can earn the trust of a room full of engineers without relying on a title, and you can still review the architecture yourself
- Hands-on with context engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks, and modern agentic architectures — you know the difference between a prototype and a production-grade system, and you can teach it
- Comfortable with Python and fluent in the LLM frameworks, tools, and integration patterns common in real engineering stacks
- Energized by building in ambiguous environments — you're here to define the playbook, not run one
You may also have
- Founded a company or run a founder-led technical sales motion, giving you firsthand understanding of what technical buyers are actually evaluating
- Won competitive technical evaluations against other LLM providers, in rooms you weren't supposed to win
- Built team infrastructure from zero: hiring loops, onboarding programs, technical playbooks, coaching systems
- A visible technical presence in the AI engineering community — conference talks, written content, open-source contributions
Compensation and benefits
- $240–340K CAD base salary + equity
- Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Visa sponsorship available
How we work
On-site in Calgary. Small team, massive surface area, complete autonomy in how you solve problems. You will manage, and you will also carry accounts personally — a manager here who hasn't run an evaluation this quarter is guessing about what they're coaching. What makes the role different is what the team is for: named customers, real workloads, and a country that is actively deciding whose infrastructure it can trust.

Canadian AI adoption is bottlenecked on trust. Runars is an OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible inference API, a Canadian GPU cloud in Montreal and Calgary, and Runars Chat with live web and CanLII legal research. Every token, log, and prompt cache stays on Canadian soil.
Startups are where the next generation of Canadian AI companies gets built — and where the architecture decisions get made fastest, under the most constraint, with the least margin for error. A seed-stage team choosing its inference provider is making a decision that will follow it to Series B. As Manager of Applied AI Architecture, Startups, you'll build and lead the team that wins those decisions: hiring Runars' first dedicated architects for the startup segment, setting the bar for technical credibility, and personally carrying our most strategic early-stage accounts.
This is a role for a technical go-to-market leader with genuine builder credibility. You know how startups evaluate, buy, and scale because you've lived it — and you know that at this stage, the sale is the architecture review.
This is a founding-manager role. You will define what technical partnership at Runars looks like — the playbooks, the hiring bar, the coaching — while staying close enough to the ground to know what's actually working.
What you'll do
- Build, hire, and develop a team of Applied AI Architects for the startup segment — set a high bar for technical credibility, customer impact, and startup-paced execution
- Personally lead engagements with priority early-stage accounts, from first technical conversation through production deployment and scale, modeling what great looks like for your team
- Own the segment's technical playbooks: how to run a fast technical evaluation, how to architect LLM solutions for resource-constrained teams, how to take a company from prototype to production without a rewrite, and how to win against US hyperscalers and other LLM providers
- Partner with Sales and GTM leadership as one team, shaping segment strategy and driving adoption across the Canadian startup ecosystem
- Make sure customer signal reaches Product and Engineering — emerging use cases, deployment patterns, architectural decisions — translated into roadmap, not anecdotes
- Build Runars' technical presence in the startup and AI engineering community through events, workshops, and written content
- Stay ahead of the AI engineering landscape — context engineering, eval frameworks, agentic architectures, developer tooling — and keep your team operating at the frontier
What we look for
- 8+ years in technical customer-facing roles — Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or the founder-equivalent: an engineer who sold and built at the same time — with 5+ years leading and managing pre-sales or technical go-to-market teams
- Deep experience working with startups and high-growth companies. You understand the velocity, the constraints, and how technical decisions actually get made at seed, Series A, and Series B
- Genuine builder credibility: you've built and deployed LLM-powered applications, you speak the language of founders and founding engineers, and you can earn the trust of a deeply technical room without relying on a title
- Hands-on with context engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks, and modern agentic architectures — you know the difference between a demo and a production system, and you can teach it
- Comfortable with Python and fluent in the LLM frameworks, tools, and integration patterns common in startup engineering stacks
- Energized by building in ambiguous environments — you're here to define the playbook, not run one
You may also have
- Been a technical founder or run a founder-led sales motion, giving you firsthand understanding of what technical buyers in the startup world are actually evaluating
- Won competitive technical evaluations against other LLM providers, in rooms you weren't supposed to win
- Built team infrastructure from zero: hiring loops, onboarding programs, technical playbooks, coaching systems
- A visible technical presence in the AI engineering community — conference talks, written content, open-source contributions

Overview
Canadian AI adoption is bottlenecked on trust. Runars is an OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible inference API, a Canadian GPU cloud in Montreal and Calgary, and Runars Chat with live web and CanLII legal research. Every token, log, and prompt cache stays on Canadian soil.
Small and medium enterprises are the largest untapped segment in Canadian AI. Professional services firms, regional law offices, accounting practices, manufacturers, logistics companies — organizations big enough to have real workloads and real compliance obligations, but without an internal AI platform team to evaluate providers. They don't want a research project; they want a working system, at a cost that makes sense, from a provider they can reach on the phone. Winning this segment is an architecture act and a service act at once. As Manager of Applied AI Architecture, SME, you'll build and lead the team that does both.
This is a founding-manager role. You will define what technical partnership at Runars looks like for a segment nobody has productized yet — the playbooks, the repeatable architectures, the hiring bar — while staying close enough to the ground to know what's actually working.
What you'll do
- Build, hire, and develop a team of Applied AI Architects for the SME segment — set a high bar for technical credibility, customer impact, and pragmatic execution
- Personally lead engagements with priority SME accounts, from first conversation through production deployment, modeling what great looks like for your team
- Own the segment's technical playbooks: repeatable reference architectures for document processing, retrieval, and agentic workflows; delivery patterns that let a small team land value in weeks, not quarters; cost models that hold up to an owner-operator's scrutiny; and how to win against generic offshore AI consultancies and US hyperscalers alike
- Turn the segment's repeated needs into leverage — templates, eval suites, and integration patterns that raise the ceiling on what one architect can deliver
- Partner with Sales and GTM leadership as one team, shaping segment strategy and driving adoption across Canadian SMBs
- Make sure customer signal reaches Product and Engineering — what SMEs actually ask for, what they actually use, what they won't pay for — translated into roadmap, not anecdotes
- Stay ahead of the AI engineering landscape — context engineering, eval frameworks, agentic architectures — and keep your team operating at the frontier
What we look for
- 8+ years in technical customer-facing roles — Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or equivalent — with 5+ years leading and managing pre-sales or delivery-focused technical teams
- Experience selling and delivering to SMBs or mid-market customers. You understand the buying dynamics: short decision chains, no procurement department, a budget owner who wants proof this quarter
- Genuine builder credibility: you've built and deployed LLM-powered applications in production, and you can architect a document pipeline or an agentic workflow yourself, on a deadline, without a platform team behind you
- A track record of making delivery repeatable — you've turned one-off customer projects into patterns, templates, or productized offerings that a team can execute consistently
- Hands-on with context engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks, and modern agentic architectures, and able to teach the difference between a prototype and a production-grade system
- Comfortable with Python and fluent in the LLM frameworks, tools, and integration patterns common in real engineering stacks
- Energized by building in ambiguous environments — you're here to define the playbook, not run one
You may also have
- Run a consulting or professional-services delivery organization, and know firsthand where those models break down and how to fix them
- Won competitive deals against larger incumbents with more name recognition and more slides
- Built team infrastructure from zero: hiring loops, onboarding programs, delivery playbooks, coaching systems
- Experience with the specific workloads SMEs actually run: document intelligence, intake automation, compliance reporting, back-office agents
Compensation and benefits
- $240–340K CAD base salary + equity
- Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Visa sponsorship available

Overview
Canadian AI adoption is bottlenecked on trust. Runars is an OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible inference API, a Canadian GPU cloud in Montreal and Calgary, and Runars Chat with live web and CanLII legal research. Every token, log, and prompt cache stays on Canadian soil.
Nowhere is that bottleneck sharper than in financial services. Canadian fintechs, credit unions, insurers, and capital markets firms operate under FINTRAC obligations, PIPEDA, OSFI's model risk and third-party risk expectations, and the scrutiny of partner banks — and their regulators are actively asking hard questions about where their data goes and what their models do. Most providers can't answer those questions with a straight face. Runars can. As Manager of Applied AI Architecture, Fintech, you'll build and lead the team that turns data residency and auditability from a compliance checkbox into Runars' decisive competitive advantage in the segment.
This is a founding-manager role. You will define what technical partnership at Runars looks like in financial services — the playbooks, the reference architectures, the hiring bar — while staying close enough to the ground to know what's actually working.
What you'll do
- Build, hire, and develop a team of Applied AI Architects for the fintech segment — set a high bar for technical credibility, regulatory fluency, and execution
- Personally lead engagements with priority financial services accounts, from first technical discovery through risk review, procurement, production deployment, and expansion
- Own the segment's technical playbooks: how to run a technical evaluation that survives a risk officer's scrutiny, how to architect for data residency and auditability, how to build customer-specific eval frameworks for accuracy-critical financial workflows, and how to win against US hyperscalers whose answers to the residency question are diplomatic at best
- Partner with Sales and GTM leadership as one team, shaping segment strategy and driving adoption across Canadian fintech and financial institutions
- Make sure customer signal reaches Product and Engineering — the audit trails, residency controls, and determinism guarantees the segment keeps asking for — translated into roadmap, not anecdotes
- Build Runars' technical and regulatory credibility in Canadian financial services through industry events, working groups, and written content
- Stay ahead of the AI engineering landscape — context engineering, eval frameworks, agentic architectures, guardrails — and keep your team operating at the frontier
What we look for
- 8+ years in technical customer-facing roles — Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or equivalent — with 5+ years leading and managing pre-sales or technical go-to-market teams
- Deep experience selling into or building for regulated financial services. You know how model risk management, vendor due diligence, and security review actually work — and you can defend a data-flow diagram line by line in front of a risk committee
- Genuine builder credibility: you've built and deployed LLM-powered applications in production, you can review the architecture yourself, and you know which parts of a system a regulator will ask about
- Hands-on with context engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks, and modern agentic architectures, with a working understanding of what accuracy, auditability, and human-in-the-loop mean when real money moves
- Comfortable with Python and fluent in the LLM frameworks, tools, and integration patterns common in financial services engineering stacks
- Energized by building in ambiguous environments — you're here to define the playbook, not run one
You may also have
- Worked inside a regulated financial institution and carried the risk-review process yourself, so you know what the other side of the table is actually evaluating
- Won competitive technical evaluations against other LLM providers in regulated environments
- Built team infrastructure from zero: hiring loops, onboarding programs, technical playbooks, coaching systems
- Experience with financial workloads specifically: document intelligence for KYC and onboarding, transaction narratives, compliance drafting, fraud and AML investigation tooling
Compensation and benefits
- $240–340K CAD base salary + equity
- Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Visa sponsorship available

Canadian AI adoption is bottlenecked on trust. Runars is an OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible inference API, a Canadian GPU cloud in Montreal and Calgary, and Runars Chat with live web and CanLII legal research. Every token, log, and prompt cache stays on Canadian soil.
Construction is one of the largest industries in the country and one of the least served by AI. General contractors, EPC firms, developers, and engineering consultancies run on document-dense, deadline-driven workflows — spec books, RFIs, change orders, tender packages, submittals, progress claims — where a missed clause costs real money and the data often can't leave the project's jurisdiction. The players building for this industry today are US SaaS platforms with US-hosted AI. As Manager of Applied AI Architecture, Construction, you'll build and lead the team that proves a Canadian alternative isn't just compliant but better.
This is a founding-manager role. You will define what technical partnership at Runars looks like for an industry that hasn't been sold AI architecture before — the playbooks, the reference architectures, the hiring bar — while staying close enough to the ground to know what's actually working.
What you'll do
- Build, hire, and develop a team of Applied AI Architects for the construction and engineering segment — set a high bar for technical credibility, domain fluency, and execution
- Personally lead engagements with priority accounts, from first technical discovery through production deployment and expansion, modeling what great looks like for your team
- Own the segment's technical playbooks: reference architectures for document intelligence at construction scale — drawings, specs, contracts, RFIs — retrieval that survives the way project teams actually search, agentic workflows for tender review and submittal tracking, and integrations with the systems the industry already runs on
- Partner with Sales and GTM leadership as one team, shaping segment strategy and driving adoption across contractors, EPC firms, and developers
- Make sure customer signal reaches Product and Engineering — what site teams, project managers, and estimators actually ask for — translated into roadmap, not anecdotes
- Build Runars' technical presence in the Canadian construction and AEC technology community through industry events, associations, and written content
- Stay ahead of the AI engineering landscape — context engineering, eval frameworks, agentic architectures, document AI — and keep your team operating at the frontier
What we look for
- 8+ years in technical customer-facing roles — Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or equivalent — with 5+ years leading and managing pre-sales or technical go-to-market teams
- Deep experience selling to or building for the construction, engineering, or AEC industries — you understand the project lifecycle, the contractual pressure, and how technology decisions get made between owner, GC, and subcontractor
- Genuine builder credibility: you've built and deployed LLM-powered applications in production, with real depth in document processing and retrieval — you can architect a spec-book pipeline yourself and defend its failure modes
- Hands-on with context engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks, and modern agentic architectures, and able to teach the difference between a prototype and a production-grade system
- Comfortable with Python and fluent in the LLM frameworks, tools, and integration patterns common in real engineering stacks
- Energized by building in ambiguous environments — you're here to define the playbook, not run one, in a segment where no playbook exists yet
You may also have
- Worked in or alongside the construction industry directly, in project delivery, estimating, or construction technology
- Won competitive deals against US SaaS incumbents with more headcount and more marketing
- Built team infrastructure from zero: hiring loops, onboarding programs, technical playbooks, coaching systems
- Experience with the workloads this segment actually runs: RFP and tender analysis, contract and change-order review, drawing and submittal intelligence, field reporting
